Where teaching jobs
are actually advertised.

Every state advertises public school positions on its own government portal, and Catholic and independent schools usually run their own too. Here are the official links — state by state — so you don't waste time on the wrong site.

Start with the government portal

Permanent public school positions are almost always on the state government jobs site first.

Check rural and remote

Smaller and remote schools often have incentives, housing and faster pathways — but fewer applicants.

Look at the school directly

Catholic and independent schools frequently advertise on their own site before anywhere else.

NSW Department of Education

New South Wales

NSW
Primary portal
JobsNSW

The official portal for all NSW public school teaching and executive positions. Search by location, role type and school level.

Tips for New South Wales teachers
  • Most permanent positions are advertised on JobsNSW only — independent sites rarely list public-school permanents.
  • Create a JobsNSW profile and save searches by location and role type; new listings are posted weekly.
  • Catholic and independent schools often advertise directly on their own diocese or school website, not on aggregation sites.
Department of Education Victoria

Victoria

VIC
Primary portal
School Jobs Victoria

The official Victorian Government schools jobs portal (formerly Recruitment Online). All permanent and fixed-term teaching and leadership roles are listed here.

Tips for Victoria teachers
  • Recruitment Online requires a Victorian Government login — register before you plan to apply.
  • Many Victorian schools (especially high-demand areas) run fast-track or early-application rounds — watch for closing dates in Term 3 for the following year.
  • Independent schools in Victoria often recruit directly via their own websites; check the school's employment page directly.
Department of Education Queensland

Queensland

QLD
Primary portal
Smart Jobs

The central Queensland Government jobs portal. All state school teaching, leadership and support roles are advertised here.

Tips for Queensland teachers
  • Smart Jobs lists all state school vacancies including rural and remote incentives — filter by 'Education' and location.
  • Queensland has a high volume of rural and remote positions with relocation and retention bonuses — these are clearly flagged on Smart Jobs.
  • Catholic dioceses in Queensland each have their own portal; Brisbane Catholic Education is the largest employer outside the state sector.
Department of Education WA

Western Australia

WA
Primary portal
JobsWA

The WA Government jobs portal. Filter by 'Department of Education' for teaching, school leadership and regional school support roles.

Tips for Western Australia teachers
  • Regional and remote WA positions often attract substantial allowances — check the job detail page for locational incentives.
  • WA Department of Education runs separate campaigns for metro and regional pools; apply to both if you are flexible on location.
  • Independent schools in Perth recruit heavily in Term 3 and 4 for the following year — start checking in August.
Department for Education SA

South Australia

SA
Primary portal
EDi Recruitment

The SA Department for Education careers portal. Lists teaching, preschool and school leadership positions in South Australian public schools.

Tips for South Australia teachers
  • EDi Recruitment is the only place to apply for permanent public school teaching roles in SA — create an account early.
  • SA runs a centralised teacher placement process for graduate and new teachers; check EDi for graduate recruitment campaigns.
  • Many Adelaide independent schools advertise on their own websites first; check the school's employment page directly before aggregator sites.
Department for Education, Children and Young People

Tasmania

TAS
Primary portal
Tasmanian Government Jobs

The Tasmanian Government jobs portal. Search for teaching, school leadership and early-learning roles within DECYP.

Tips for Tasmania teachers
  • Tasmanian public school roles are centralised through jobs.tas.gov.au — there is no separate education-only portal.
  • Rural and regional schools in Tasmania often struggle to fill positions; relocation support and housing assistance may be available.
  • The Tasmanian teaching workforce is small — networking through professional associations can surface roles before they are widely advertised.
ACT Education Directorate

Australian Capital Territory

ACT
Primary portal
ACT Government Jobs

The ACT Government jobs portal. All ACT public school teaching, executive and school leadership positions are listed here.

Tips for Australian Capital Territory teachers
  • The ACT teaching market is tight — positions are competitive and close quickly; set up alerts on jobs.act.gov.au.
  • Many ACT teachers also hold NSW registration because the border is close and some schools straddle both jurisdictions.
  • Catholic Education Canberra Goulburn covers both ACT and surrounding NSW areas — check their portal if you are willing to commute.
NT Department of Education

Northern Territory

NT
Primary portal
NT Government Jobs

The Northern Territory Government jobs portal. Search for teaching, principal and remote school positions across the NT.

Tips for Northern Territory teachers
  • NT teaching positions, especially in remote communities, often include significant incentives — housing, relocation and retention bonuses.
  • The NT has a dedicated remote teaching workforce strategy; check the Department's website for targeted recruitment campaigns.
  • Many NT positions are advertised as 'pool' or ongoing recruitment — apply even if no specific vacancy is listed.
A note on timing

"Most schools advertise between Term 3 and early Term 4 for the following year. Set up alerts now on your state portal and check Catholic and independent school sites directly — the best roles often never make it to the big aggregators."
